Path 1: You Have Your

2010 MBA Grad
- enrollment in the 10 month Fall 2011-12 Accelerated Program (June 2012 Entrance Exam)
Path 2: You Want To Attain The MBA
And CMA Simultaneously
The combined Asper MBA-CMA program enables students to achieve the credits required to earn the CMA
designation while earning their MBA. Students also save significant time and money by acquiring both
credentials concurrently instead of achieving them individually.
Candidates may complete the Asper MBA-CMA Program Components in as little as two years. The time frame for
completion of the combined program depends on one’s educational background, MBA start date and chosen pace of
study.
Asper MBA-CMA Program Components
CMA Accelerated Program
The Accelerated Program is a part-time program that qualifies individuals for CMAs rigorous National
Entrance Examination, an internationally recognized standard of achievement. The Entrance Exam ensures that
students possess the functional competencies including: strategic management, risk and governance,
performance management, performance measurement, financial reporting, and financial management.
Students must have completed the following pre-requisites through the equivalent core MBA courses or through
their undergraduate degree program in order to commence the Accelerated Program: Introductory Financial
Accounting, Introductory Management Accounting and Statistics.

Program.
Entrance Examination
The CMA National Entrance Examination is a four-hour, multiple choice exam that tests the CMA
competencies associated with management accounting, financial accounting, corporate tax and corporate finance
topics. (link to EExam competency map document) The exam is offered twice a year, in June and October and
preparation is included in the Accelerated Program. Students must achieve a grade of 60% or higher and are
permitted a maximum of three attempts at the exam.
Case Examination
The CMA National Case Examination is a four-hour exam, which requires analysis of a complex business
case. The process evaluates the higher level skills of judgment, evaluation, integration and communication,
and candidates are expected to provide considerable quantitative analysis in their consideration of the
alternatives. Two days prior to the Case Exam, exam writers are given a backgrounder with information on a
hypothetical organization and its environment, with the remainder to be provided on exam day. The exam is
offered twice a year, in mid-May and mid-August and preparation support and resources are provided so that
candidates have an understanding of the expectations as related to the four-hour time frame. A grade of 60%
or higher is required and a maximum of three attempts at the exam are permitted.
Board Report
Candidates must demonstrate that their business and accounting knowledge can be put to practical use
by completing the CMA Canada Board Report. Working in small teams between March and June, candidates are
required to prepare a 10,000 word Board Report that’s subsequently presented to a panel of CMA Manitoba
members/industry representatives. Preparation support will be provided to help ensure a successful outcome.
The written portion of the CMA Canada Board report, which is marked nationally and worth 70% of the project
grade, must be submitted in early June. The verbal presentation, worth 30%, is scheduled in late June and is
assessed by CMA Manitoba. Team members receive the same grades and must achieve a pass mark of 60% for the
overall process.
Qualifying Work Experience
Candidates must demonstrate completion of the CMA Manitoba qualifying experience requirements in
order to complete the program. CMA Manitoba prefers that applicants already possess a minimum of two years of
related management experience entering the program. A candidate may apply relevant experience gained up to
three years prior to commencing the MBA. Alternatively, CMA Manitoba will consider progressive, relevant
experience gained during the MBA (including Internships), and/or in the two years immediately following the
MBA.
Path 3: You Have Your
CMA
Individuals who already hold a CMA designation (earned in the last 8 years) and an undergraduate degree
are eligible for 18 credit hours of exemptions in the Asper MBA Program. For further information visit www.umanitoba.ca/asper
